ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer Review & Giveaway
WE HAVE A WINNER! Random.org generated number 8 which is Natalie. Congratulations!
When I had my daughter, one of the things I made sure I always have around is a thermometer. You won’t catch me without it! To me, it’s the best tool in my first-aid kit. The first thing I use when I suspect that my little one is not feeling well or I’m not feeling well. And I’m sure most of us own the same ole’ regular digital thermometers with that pointy tip that is cumbersome to use since you have to stick it inside your mouth or your armpit or down below if needed to check your temperature.

Imagine my delight when friends at Mom Select sent me the ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer to use! My daughter just started Kindergarten and I’m already dreading all the germs and whatNots that she’ll catch in school being around other kids and make her sick. Not to say Flu season is already amidst us too. Unfortunately, she is sick today and the Temple Touch Thermometer was put to the test. Though I wish she wasn’t sick.
Nonetheless, I love the ease of use of this device. All I do is place the flat probe on her temple area and within 6-8 seconds, I get the temperature reading. The body is also big enough for me to comfortably hold it in place and no covers required. I just wipe the probe clean with a cloth dabbed in alcohol and it’s good for next use! Best of all, even my daughter can take her own temperature reading without my help. Definitely very user-friendly and the concept is truly unique. This thermometer is a keeper!
Mr. Rivyoohoo says:
I’ve used a few different types of thermometers over the years. Starting with the old mercury thermometers, then the mood ring style strips that you place on your forehead and the digital thermometers that you place under your tongue. I have not tried the ear thermometers, which use infra-red technology. The ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer is a good balance between an under-the-tongue digital thermometer and the surface strip mood ring-style thermometer.
All surface-style thermometers suffer from the same accuracy issues, which makes sense since you can’t get an accurate core temperature reading from taking a surface temperature. The rule of thumb is to add one degree to the final result. I found this to be true recently when our daughter was sick and the thermometer kept giving a reading of 99, which didn’t make sense since she felt hotter than that. I took her temperature this morning and the reading I got was 97.9. When I add one degree, it became a more normal 98.9.
I like the fact that it’s non-invasive and it has a small contact area (unlike the mood ring-style strips that are three inches long). It would seem that I would be able to easily take my child’s temperature while she’s sleeping. Except for two things: 1) the beeps and 2) no backlight on the digital display. The ReliOn Temple Touch uses a series of indicator beeps so you know what to do. My daughter can be a light sleeper when she’s not feeling well and the beeps did disturb her. I also had to use a flashlight so I wouldn’t poke her in the eye and this also disturbed her. Adding a backlight would’ve been a nice touch so I wouldn’t need to use a flashlight. A backlight could also act as a visual indicator (maybe by flashing the display) so that we can turn off the beeps and the unit would be silent.
Overall, I would highly recommend this product. It’s small and easy to use and for around $10, an inexpensive addition to your first aid kit.

I just wanted to pipe up and say that we are using a temple thermometer in our home- we compared results with our Braun ear thermometer and they are usually spot-on…
The reason we use a temple thermometer is because my son has ASD (Asperger’s which is on the autism spectrum) and trying to get him to put a thermometer under his tongue for even a few seconds to get a reading is impossible- so we wind up frustrated and not getting a good reading.
With this we can test when he is sleeping and when he is awake with minimal fuss. Good stuff!
